Sport as an economic factor in the city of Duisburg – stocktaking and prospects
As part of an expert report for the city of Duisburg, a comprehensive inventory of all players in Duisburg's sports sector (active sportspeople, sports clubs, sports associations, sports administration, sports service providers and schools, private and public sports facility operators, sports events) was carried out. To this end, their specific infrastructures and services were researched and analysed from an economic perspective (including public and private expenditure in favour of sport, investment volumes, turnover, value added and employment contributions). In addition, a number of future topics relevant to sports policy (including the energy crisis, capacity and demand bottlenecks in sport, demographic change, trends in sport) were analysed against the specific backdrop of Duisburg's sports economy.
