Organic farming – in the context of the INFORGE model

04.09.2025

The recently published brief “Ökolandbau – im Kontext des Modells INFORGE” deals with the structural changes associated with the expansion of organic farming. It focuses in particular on changes in the use of intermediate inputs and in customer and demand orientation. The methodological basis is provided by the INFORGE macroeconomic model, which allows for a differentiated representation of sectoral interdependencies in the overall economy. After an introduction to the model, the relevant assumptions are explained, the development of organically farmed land is analyzed, and the differences in the production and cost structures of conventional and organic farming are highlighted. The aim of the study is to provide a deeper understanding of the economic impact of the expansion of organic farming and to clarify its structural mechanisms in the context of macroeconomic developments.
