Preparation of a systemic monitoring system for the bioeconomy in Germany (SYMOBIO 2Plus)

SYMOBIO researches and develops the scientific basis for systemic monitoring and modeling of the bioeconomy in Germany. It also considers the general orientation of the bioeconomy towards the SDGs, in particular food security, climate-neutral production, and the preservation of biodiversity. This is because a bioeconomy is not sustainable per se, but must be designed to be sustainable.

SYMOBIO 2PLUS aims to bridge the gap between the area of research projects, focused on e.g. developing new scientific expertise on bioeconomy monitoring needs and tools, and official reporting, focused on e.g. regular updates of robust indicators to depict the status and performance of the bioeconomy in Germany. In that sense, the SYMOBIO 2PLUS project is about knowledge transfer and turning the key findings generated in the research projects SYMOBIO 1.0 and 2.0 into consolidated information for developing such an indicator set. It is intended to prepare the way for official monitoring by exploring critical questions related to structure, requirements, gaps, needs and responsibilities.
