Demographics, Private Households and Consumption

Projects in this Research Area discuss questions as to how and in which way demographic change affects the economy. Private households are at the heart of these analyses. The single factors that are analysed range from changes in the income distribution and the structure of consumption to the estimation of quantity and structural effects of demographic change on the economy. Moreover, the consequences of aging for long-term care (see also Health and Long-term Care), the structure of the labour supply (see alsoLabour Market) and regional disparities (cf.Regional Issues) are examined.

Since 2005, GWS has been part of the research project “Reporting on socioeconomic development in Germany” (soeb.de), that aims to describe and understand the profound transformation taking place in German society.
